What is Aikido?
Aikido is a young martial art, which comes origin from Japan. It’s a holistically orientated martial art which
teaches an effective form of self-defense techniques. Aikido is being practiced without violence, because you
do not work against the attacker. You use the force and divert it. This means that Aikido can be practice as
self-defense without great muscle power and regardless of age.
The martial art was developed in Japan by Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969). For a variety of martial arts, including
JuJutsu, Kenjutsu, Judo and Daito-Ryu, which he studied, he developed the Aikido. The word Aikido consists of
various syllables (in japanese a word correspond a syllable) Ai means harmony, Ki means universal energy or life
force and Do means "the way" or can be derived from training location.
Aikido offers an appealing and modern training, that has got a positive effect for a healthy posture,
a better ability to concentrate and it is good for mobility and endurance.
